Good Hemp Natural Refuel Shake Review & Giveaway

Today, I have my first ever guest post, and it’s been written by none other than M (my elusive ‘better half’ 😉 ) As an endurance mountain biker, he likes to use protein shakes to aid recovery after training sessions.  In this post, he reviews the Good Hemp Natural Chocolate Refuel Shake, which he recently tried for the first time.

Good Hemp Refuel Shake Review

Refuel! Refuel! Eating and drinking is usually the first thing on my mind after a couple of hours stomping up and down hills on a mountain bike so this Good Hemp Nutrition product sounded promising if the name is anything to go by…

Good Hemp Natural Refuel Shake

I’ve tried recovery shakes before; generally containing dairy based proteins and invariably turning a super-natural neon yellow or green colour when mixed with water.  I guess the outlandish colours prompted me to look for something a little more natural looking although I also wanted to ditch the dairy as well.

Good Hemp Nutrition’s Refuel appears to be what I was looking for.  Made from natural hemp protein powder, it’s formulated to provide a balance of carbohydrates for recovery and protein for rebuilding muscles that have been busy.  You can read for yourself about the ingredients on the side of the tub or Good Hemp Nutrition’s website but apparently the protein contains all 20 amino acids; including the essential ones.

So what’s it like? Personally, I like it.  A dose of natural cocoa powder gives it a nice chocolaty taste without any overly-sugary sweetness.  It’s pleasant to drink; unlike some earthy hemp based shakes that I’ve previously tried.  It mixes easily with water to make a nice smooth shake; I like to imagine my body soaking it up appreciatively as I gulp it down

And has it improved my recovery time?  Are my legs stronger than they used to be? Am I toasting my riding buddies on every climb? I’ve just got to the bottom of my first tin so I think it’s a bit soon to even start to make any such claims.  Besides my life is hardly a laboratory for testing nutritional products.  However, I feel good and I feel refuelled and that’s all I could ask for. Enjoy the trails!

M must really like this shake as he’s coming to the end of his first tub and is already planning to order two more!

I have also been looking for something to have after the gym and have only found the dairy shakes. Will definately be trying this shake. Good luck with your bike challange. Sue

    • Hi Sue! Thank you so much for stopping by the blog. I love the fact that this Good Hemp Refuel Shake is natural and dairy free. It tastes pretty good too! I’m sorry you didn’t win the giveaway, but if you did wish to try the shake, here’s a 10% off code for internet orders: REVIEW10.
      Here’s wishing you a wonderful Summer ♥

  2. Thanks for the review. I love how “clean” the ingredients of Good Hemp’s protein powders are compared to most on the market which seem to be packed with sugar and other rubbish. I’ve been using the “Gym Shake” for a while now- mainly just as a protein + energy boost, but it doesn’t hurt that it tastes great too, especially blended with almond milk and a banana for breakfast 🙂
I used to be a runner but had a bad injury over a year ago and have mainly just been doing yoga since, nothing intense… and of course biking all over Oxford. I’ve heard there’s a great half marathon in Bath though so I’m tempted to train for it…

    • So sorry to hear you had a bad injury 🙁 I hope you’re on the mend now and on your way to a full recovery. The Bath Half is a great event and many of my friends and family have completed it. I’m not planning to do it myself any time soon though as I much prefer the shorter, 10km races. Sticking to these, I’ve managed to stay injury free these past few years 🙂 Also, the Bath Half consists of 2 laps of the same route. I think I’d get round once and then have a sense of foreboding at the thought of doing it all over again 😉

I’ve been looking for a decent energy / protein shake for some time now. Being vegan I haven’t found it easy to find one that does the job as well as tastes good. I’m also recovering from cancer so nutrition and exercise are important in helping me maintain my health. Refuel could become a staple in my diet! Love your website, by the way, always full of fun, food and love…what a combination! 🙂
    Cheers, Wayne.

    • Thank you so much Wayne for your kind comments about the blog. It’s comments like yours that inspire me to keep going with it ♥
I’m sending you my heart-felt wishes for a speedy recovery from your illness. Hopefully you’ll be back to full strength in no time at all.
I’m sorry that you didn’t win the Good Hemp giveaway this time. I’m sure I’ll be hosting more giveaways in the future. In the mean time, if you’d like to try the Refuel Shake, Good Hemp have given us a 10% off code for internet orders: REVIEW10

Ah yeah, I could do with some of that. I could do with anything that might make riding my bike over hills a touch easier….

I wondered what his secret was, now I know I can make it a level playing field (although I doubt it will bridge the gap, no matter how good). M’s review makes me want to give it a go, I’m also not a big post exercise shakes person (more a big shake with a burger) but this sounds tasty and refreshing as well as very good for aching muscles.

  7. Mark

Next race Mondraker Enduro Exmoor 2 weeks.

Good luck with the 100miler rides 🙂

  8. Mark

    Have liked… 🙂

  9. Dreddi

    Liked on FB 🙂

  10. Dickie Horn

Sounds good. I’m up for trying anything healthy that will give me a boost.

  11. Rebecca

I’m a roadie who races lots and is really struggling with refuelling after the race, I can’t have most ‘mainstream’ products as they have Dairy/Soya in and too much sugar which my body doesn’t agree with. ATM I make my own ‘recovery’ drinks but can never get the balance right in them (With protein/carb ratio) so it’d be great to try something that’s natural and good for me 🙂

    • Hi Rebecca! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Like you, I can’t tolerate dairy or too much sugar, so I find the Good Hemp products are spot on for me. I particularly like their Refuel Shake as it has a nice, chocolatey taste (whereas the plain Hemp powders can taste a bit ‘earthy’ IMO).
I’m sorry that you didn’t win the giveaway, but if you’d like to try the Good Hemp Refuel Shake, they’ve given us a 10% off code for use on internet orders. Just enter “Review10” at the checkout.
I believe you can also get £5 off by signing up to their e-newsletter.
Good luck with the road racing! xx

  12. Nick

I’ve never tried a hemp-based protein powder before so I’m intrigued. From the review it sounds like it tastes pretty good. I’d like to try some myself.

  13. Jim

Sounds Good! I’ll give that a go. And if I don’t like it I know someone who will……
