Queen B’s Top 5 Tips for Getting FIT while having FUN!

How do you feel about exercise? Do you love it? Loathe it? Begrudgingly do it because you know it’s good for you? Personally, I’m an exercise lover. For me, nothing feels more invigorating and energising that moving my body and getting the heart pumping.

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting personal trainer, Bryony Miles (aka ‘Queen B’). I’d been following her on Instagram for a while, and her photos always bring a big smile to my face. Whether alone or with friends, her workouts are full of smiles, laughter and a touch of craziness. Recently, I joined Bryony for one of her Queen B’s Silent Discos. A totally new experience for me, but it was so much fun! If you live in the Bath area and fancy giving it a try yourself, I’ve popped the details at the end of the post.

Not everyone puts exercise and fun together, but this is something that Bryony most certainly does.

For today’s post, Bryony has kindly agreed to share her top five tips for getting fit while having fun.

Here they are…

1  Don’t do something you don’t really want to do
This doesn’t mean rule out exercise all together just because you’re not in the mood for it; what I want people to understand is that exercise doesn’t have to be monotonous and boring. If going to the gym isn’t your thing then that’s cool! Find something you are passionate about, maybe an old childhood hobby like netball or gymnastics. Something that requires a skill you enjoy learning.

2  Switch it up!
Have you been that person in the gym who has been doing the SAME program over and over again for months on end?! Yep even I have been there too. Although it is good to stick to a plan of action it is also just as important to switch it up. Don’t be afraid to ask an instructor at your gym for some new exercises or ways to keep your plan interesting and challenging. Our bodies naturally over time get used to the same exercises which can lead to not seeing the results we want. For example if you feel like squats are becoming too easy you can add in some extra power by giving squat jumps a go! I love this leg burning exercise as it ticks the cardio and strength box at the same time!

3  Workout with a friend
I absolutely love working out alone and know I’m pretty lucky to feel that way, however every time I workout with a friend I challenge myself so much more! We encourage each other to get 1 more rep in when usually we would have stopped, we push ourselves way more during the high intensity intervals and enjoy that active bonding time together with a few laughs along the way. So go find that friend that might need a bit of extra support and get yourself motivated together with a delicious post workout smoothie after!

4  Book yourself into a class!
I have been teaching classes for nearly three years now and can absolutely vouch for the fact that going to classes gets you results. Including myself! I remember the first time I went to an exercise class. I felt terrified before walking into the room. But not knowing what to do or what to expect, feeling like the least fit person there and paranoid that I would do everything wrong, actually kept me motivated. I wanted to go back and get it right, get fitter, see the same people, make new friends, and get into a routine that suited my schedule. Working out in a class makes you want to do your best. You get different things from different classes so step outside of your comfort zone and try something new!

5  Exercise to music
This has to be my favourite one of all, by far! A great playlist means a GREAT workout! I love stepping into the gym with my headphones on full blast playing my current favourite songs. This applies to classes as well; if the music is good, it motivates you to work harder. I came up with the idea of combining a silent disco to exercising and created Queen B’s Silent Disco. The idea is that everyone wears headphones that I provide (they have LED flashing lights too just for added fun!) You can hear me through my Britney mic as I take you through the most fun workouts you’ll ever have! I incorporate HIIT training exercises to the sassiest songs to make you feel empowered while we power through this 45 minute class of sweat and smiles! The thing I love the most about teaching this class is seeing how much fun everyone is having, you just don’t get that when you workout in the gym do you?!

Loving those tips! Thank you Bryony ❤️
