Spring is in the air! The Joys of Blossom… and Living in the Moment!

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend! 🙂

On Saturday we had glorious weather in Bath, so I took the opportunity to get out into the garden and do some tidying up.  It was so warm that we even managed to eat our lunch outside 🙂

It really does feel like Spring has arrived in Bath.  The crocuses and primroses are popping up everywhere in our little garden…

along with the daffodils and cute little narcissus 🙂

One of my favourite things about Springtime is blossom.  Trees look so severe in Wintertime without their leaves, but come Springtime, their bare branches are covered in the most delicately coloured, beautiful flowers that are an absolute joy to see.

One of my favourite types of blossom is found on the japonica tree.

This tree is situated outside Lil’ L’s bedroom, and it’s such a nice sight to be greeted with as  I open his curtains first thing in the morning.

To reach school, we have to walk up a very steep hill.  Even though I consider myself to be pretty fit, I’m totally out of breath as I reach the top!  But what I focus on as I’m climbing (and huffing and puffing!) is the cherry tree that marks the end of the hill.  This tree is absolutely glorious at the moment…

with the most beautiful blossom 🙂

And check out how blue the sky was on the school run today!

In last week’s Wednesday Workshop (a little primary school Buddhist class that I teach each Wednesday) we read the story of the Four Princesses and the Kingshuk Tree (a beautiful story!) and I used the example of blossom to teach the children about impermanence and the importance of living in the moment.  Most of us are so busy in our lives, with our heads filled with a million and one thoughts and plans, that we risk losing sight of all the beauty that surrounds us in our natural environment.  When we do live in the moment, everything becomes brighter, clearer, more beautiful.

Time to enjoy the blossom… it’ll be gone before we know it!

Has Spring arrived where you live?  What’s your favourite thing about this season?

  1. I thought that spring had arrived and then my husband called to say that it was snowing at our house (apparently a little cloud of snow just over our house).
Anyway the shots you took are awesome and I love the tree in front of Lil’ L’s window that would just brighten my day everyday it was in bloom.
Glad you had such a glorious weekend Sharon!

    1. Wow you are having mixed weather at the moment!
Our weather has been unusually mild. I don’t mind missing out on the cold weather, but it was a shame to not experience the Winter season. So glad we spent the afternoon outside when it did snow! That was all the snow we’ve had. Blink and you would have missed it!

  2. wow how wonderful those pictures are!
i just returned from paris today, it was amazing but rainy and cold! it is actually warmer in austria. clear blue sky and i heard birds singing today. it will still take some time for the flowers to blossom but i cant wait for it! love the smell!!!

    1. You lucky thing going to Paris! It’s one of my favourite cities in the world. I’ve been there many times and lived there for a year, but I still never tire of it!
I imagine spring is beautiful in Vienna!

  3. I’m actually getting tattooed with blossoms this week – I feel in love with what they symbolise – living in the moment is something I’ve really struggled with in the past and my tattoo is going to remind me to see all the beauty of life in every moment 🙂

    1. That’s such a beautiful idea for a tattoo! I wear a mala bracelet for similar reasons. Every time I see or feel it, it reminds me to live in the moment 🙂

  4. What beautiful photographs. I love the sound of that story as well.
Spring flowers always seem to lift my heart – they are so colourful and bold compared to the greyness of winter.

  5. What lovely photos, and even prettier blossoms! I’ve seen little glimpses of spring starting to show up in the garden, but unfortunately, the weather isn’t quite as spring-like. We’ve been having a lot of rain and wind, which is typical for this time of year. While I do love the new blossoms arriving, the rainy, still-cold weather of spring has me longing for summer–my very favorite season.

    1. Our weather patterns seem to have changed a lot over the past couple of years. Our Spring season has been warm and dry, whereas August has been really rainy (the month when the kids are off school. So typical!) That’s why I’m making the most of the weather we have right now… it could be the best we have this year!

  6. I absolutely adore blossom and spring flowers. For me from the first moment the snow drops and crocuses start appearing I feel like spring is on its way.

That japonica tree blossom is just stunning! What a lovely thing for Lil’ L to have just outside his room 🙂 Personally I love cherry blossom, your photos are beautiful!

I love the lesson you taught at this week’s Wednesday Workshop, I definitely think that we rush around in life too much missing the beauty around us. I always try to stop and make the effort to appreciate all of the nature around me 🙂
