Celebrating The Vegan Kind’s First Anniversary with a Worldwide Giveaway

This month marks the first anniversary of The Vegan Kind Monthly Subscription Box. I can’t believe it’s been a year already since the postman handed me my first box. I was so excited to open it (as I have been every month since then!)

TVK Year 1

It’s so much fun getting surprise gifts, and the fact that this box is filled with vegan, planet-friendly, cruelty-free products, means it couldn’t be more perfect for me.

TVK has introduced so many amazing brands to me these past 12 months. Snacking moved onto a whole new level of deliciousness, thanks to Landgarten’s dark-chocolate covered raspberries, seeds and nuts, Propercorn’s Sweet and Salty Popcorn and Hoots Pickled Onion snacks.

And how about that almighty Vego Hazelnut Bar in TVK9 and Ombar Coco Mylk Raw Chocolate Bar in TVK11? Pure yumminess

TVK9

The boxes have introduced some new treats for Lil’ L too. He’s especially loved the Rebel Kitchen Choco Mylks, Landgarten goodies, Vego bars, Hoots snacks, Propercorn, Ten Acre crisps, Choc Shot and Freedom Mallows. Thanks to TVK and Freedom Mallows, last Christmas he enjoyed his first marshmallow topped hot chocolate 🙂

Vegan Hot Chocolate with Marshmallows

As well as the snacks, I’ve loved experimenting with the ingredients and spice mixes. The Coconom Coconut Sugar in TVK6 and Mr Organic Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto in TVK8 were particular favourites of mine. The recipe cards have been awesome too. I love how they’re printed on quality, wipe clean card and come with a handy storage binder. I was more than delighted to share one of my family’s all-time favourite vegan pizza recipes in TVK8.

Sunshine Pizza Recipe Card

Through TVK, we’ve also got to try products that aren’t yet readily available in the UK. I’d heard a lot about CocoBacon in ‘foodie world’, so I was beyond excitement to find it in TVK9. I especially loved it sprinkled on BLT style salads. I was so gutted when I came to the end of the packet. Not everyone enjoyed the Cocobacon as much as I did though. It definitely seemed to have the ‘Marmite effect’ on TVK readers 😉

BLT Salad - Vegan Style

The TVK boxes are not all about food though. They also include toiletries, beauty, personal care and household products. In TVK2 we received a full-size bottle of Greenfrog All Purpose Natural Cleaner. Its neroli scent is so lush that I actually look forward to cleaning my kitchen and bathroom now.

TVK2

One of the biggest ways TVK has impacted my life is on the home laundry front! I’d tried and failed with so many ‘eco friendly’ laundry detergents and ‘solutions’ in the past, that I wasn’t holding out much hope for the soap nuts that arrived in TVK1. I was really surprised and happy with the results though. Not only do they clean our clothes, but they seem to soften them too. For the best part of a year now, detergent and softener has been ditched in favour of soapnuts and a few drops of lavender oil 🙂

TVK1

It’s been a real privilege to share in TVK’s first year. And what an incredible journey it’s been! From starting in their kitchen, sending out a couple of hundred boxes in the UK, they moved to warehouse premises where they now mail out thousands of boxes worldwide! Did anyone see the video footage on Instagram of the boxes stacked floor to ceiling? Honestly, my jaw dropped!

Whether you’re already vegan, just starting out, or simply curious to find out more, the TVK community is a great place to connect with like-minded folk. You’ll find them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

  1. Ooo I’d love to win one of these boxes Sharon! My favourite product so far has to be the Landgarten chocolate covered raspberries!

I don’t know what I’d love to find in the box because the surprise element is the most exciting thing! I guess I’d love to find everything is gluten free then I don’t have to give anything away!

  2. This is so exciting!! I have always wanted to sign up for something like TVK box. I am very tempted to sign up when I’m back in Canada!

Thanks for holding this contest! I really want to try those marshmallows….

  3. Those boxes sound so great! It must be a lot of fun to open them and find out what lovely surprises they bring each month.
As for what I’d like to find in such a box, well, pretty much any product that’d be new to me, in a balanced mix of sweet and savory foodstuff, as well as personal care and household products. I like that TVK boxes aren’t exclusively focused on snacks, but seem to include a good mix of a variety of products.

    1. I can’t wait to find out what’s in the anniversary box… I did ask TVK but they’re keeping it a secret from me too. The suspense is killing me lol!

  4. Hi Sharon, I’ve seen that you’ve had some wonderful sounding vegan goodies in your monthly TVK box ! I’d also love to see a mix of sweet and savoury items – I love Honeybuns vegan pistachio cookie for example (it’s an epic cookie, hard to find) so some of those and I long for someone to make a decent vegan cheese :). I’d like some unsweetened soya cream for cooking and maybe some non-toxic household cleaners.

    1. Pistachios cookies, vegan cheese, cooking cream and household cleaners… now that sounds like the perfect box for me too!

Talking of vegan cheese, I’m not sure where you’re based but I recently discovered Violife cheese. It’s incredible! It’s made of coconut oil but it tastes so similar to dairy cheese. Even my mum couldn’t tell the difference!

  5. Wow what a fabulous prize.
I am not a vegan “yet” so I would love to see any yummy vegan product in there. One of the stumbling blocks for me is cheese and eggs so anything that could help me replace those would be fabulous.

    1. Hi Lorna! This box would be fab for anyone that’s interested in trying more plant-based foods or planet-friendly products, regardless of their current eating preferences. Cheese is a common stumbling block but, I must admit, the vegan cheeses being produced now are so much better than the ones I tried a decade or so ago. Violife cheeses are incredible… they taste so similar to dairy cheese yet they’re made of coconut oil! I’ve heard good reviews of Tesco ‘Free From’ cheese too, though I’ve yet to try it myself. Tofu makes a good replacement for egg… I especially love it scrambled (like in the Chinese ‘egg fried’ noodle recipe I posted this week, or on toast). For the ‘eggy taste’ people sprinkle on some black salt. You can make amazing frittatas & omelettes with tofu too! If you ever need any recipes, don’t hesitate to get in touch… I’ve got tons bookmarked 😉

  6. I have had the last 3 vegan kind boxes and I really like the array of different products sent. I tend to like the chocolates or sweets as I would not normally buy them, but the one product that I bought since being part of the box is the soapnut washing powder tablets. I was very pleased with them.

    1. So pleased to hear you’re enjoying the boxes! I did like the washing tablets, but still prefer to use the nuts themselves (which we got in TVK1). I never knew you could clean clothes with nut shells. How cool is that?

  7. This was such a nice post to read, I’m giving a lot more thought now to signing up for regular boxes! I’m definitely enamoured with the idea of bacon-y things 🙂

  8. Thank you for the giveaway!

I’m not yet a subscriber to any monthly box, though I am intrigued by the Vegan Kind and some tex boxes. Generally, I think I’d prefer snacks and beauty products to household products, as they feel more of a treat.

  9. I subscribed to the TVK box but I had to stop it due to lacking funds 🙁 Out of all my boxes my favourite things have to be the laundry things. My partners allergic to something in ours and the smell triggers sickness in my M.E. so these are very appreciated! 😀 xx

  10. I can’t see the question in the raffle box?!?!?!?!?
but oh oh oh oh sooooooooooooooo excited about a international giveaway 😀 😀 😀
I would oh so love a vegan box – esp if it had a few body goodies that were vegan in it!

  11. I would love to find some products which will help me transition to being fully vegan, I know I need to do it, I want to do it, but some how when I start the process I lose a lot of energy

I don’t eat dairy apart from eggs, so it really is just the meat I need to sort out!

    1. If I can help you with the transition in anyway, don’t hesitate to give me a shout. I’ve found the Viva website really useful. They have a 30 day challenge where they email meal plans, recipes, etc. http://www.viva.org.uk/30dayvegan
On the meat front, are there any meat substitute products that you like? I’ve always loved the Linda McCartney Country Pies (my favourite comfort food as a teenager!) Fry’s and Redwoods have big ranges of mock meats too (found in Holland & Barrett and health food stores).
I wish you all the best & good luck for the giveaway! xx

      1. thanks Sharon. The difficulties is more than anything building up healthy habits and changing everything.

I am currently quite ill – coming to terms with a relatively new chronic illness and it is taking up all of my brainpower right now.

I am leaving my job in a couple of weeks, and I will go back to freelancing, but that will leave me time to get on and figure out this a bit more.

I have already started with a smoothie containing chia seeds, oats, spirulina, berries, bananas and almond milk for my breakffast. I want to fully ingrain this as a habit and get used to having that and only that before I start to think about lunch

once I have lunch sorted out then I need to think about dinner! Right now I have the abel and cole supper boxes so I don’t need to think about it at all, I just cook what they provide me.

One baby step at a time.

I have ordered vegan life magazine though, I find reading about things helps me to get my head around it all well.

        1. I’m so sorry to hear you’re poorly at the moment. I’m sending lots of love & get well wishes your way. Your approach to changing eating habits sounds very constructive, starting with one meal at a time, and getting that fully embedded before moving onto another. Personally, I’ve only ever had success at changing habits when I’ve focused on one at a time. It’s usually taken 6 weeks, but the latest one I’m trying to kick – drinking coffee with my breakfast – seems the hardest of all… even harder than smoking & alcohol lol! Maybe that’s because I’ve been doing it for most of my life so really ingrained. I’m sure I’ll get there in the end.
So pleased you’ve ordered Vegan Life. It’s fab! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do xx

          1. thanks Sharon, yes you are right, one habit at a time is the best way to approach these things!

I gave up coffee before I gave up smoking, I wouldn’t have been able to do it the other way around

    1. Lil’ L gets excited as me when the boxes arrive. I wait for him to get in from school then we do the ‘big reveal’. He zooms in on the chocs & candy, while I’m ‘oohing and aahing’ over the cleaning products lol!

  12. Ooh, these are too expensive for me to justify subscribing to (at the moment!) but I would so love a bunch of vegan treats delivered to my door like that. I’m going to have to be terribly predictable and say I’d be most excited about the chocolate. xp

  13. I haven’t had a vegan kind box before, but as someone that is considering turning vegetarian, I would really like to try the freedom marshmallows!

  14. I dont subscribe unfortunatly but if I did I’d ;love any thing coconut, coconut syrup, coconut ball etc

  15. I don’t subscribe but I would like my own box instead of sharing with my wife’s. I’d like to see more savoury snacks!

  16. I am an agoraphobe so love getting new products as I live in middle of nowhere & rarely get out so each box is like a present to me. X

  17. snacks galore!! I live in the library at the moment, so healthy treats (especially chocolate and peanut butter orientated) are much needed at the moment as little rewards to get me through my day. popcorn, hot chocolate, marshmallows and energy bars/balls always provide a much needed healthy break from work to stop me reaching for all the unhealthy cookies and muffins the library offers!

  18. It’s hard to choose a favourite thing but if I have to, I’d say the Vego bar.

I would like to see vegan, eco-friendly household products (like the soap nuts or the BioD laundry liquid) or sweet/savoury snacks. Since Christmas is coming up vegan baking ingredients would be great too (decorations, sprinklings, food colouring etc)

  19. My favorite thing I’ve received in a subscription box was an endangered species chocolate bar! Mm, I love chocolate.

I would love to see snack-y items, like vegan chocolate or vegan candies, because those are things I don’t see everyday. Thank you for this!

  20. I haven’t subscribed to a box, but I’d love to find tea – I need a nice hot drink for this cold weather we’re having.

  21. Exciting, what a fantastic opportunity. A chance to try new and unique joyous loveliness. Particularly the chocolateyness!

  22. Ive not tried a box yet, I like the idea of trying things I might not have found myself. I’m newly vegan so have yet to discover everything available to me.

  23. I’m new to the vegan boxes and very intrigued by the what it may hold… I would love to try cooking with coconut oil, like you do sharon, as you seem to make amazing things with it. xx

  24. Hi! I would love to find more household cleaning products and personal hygene products eg: eco friendly toothbrushes. We use these things every day and they are laden with chemicals that are dangerous to ourselves and the environment.

  25. WOOT, international giveaway! I won a gluten-free subscription box once, and I LOVED it. Because I’m a starving college student, it was like getting a care package!

As much as I really need essentials, I’d love to see vegan candy in the boxes. It’s just so expensive to go out and buy a chocolate bar! I haven’t had one in so long that it’s becoming scary.

  26. I’ve never had a TVK box but would really love one as they look brilliant!
In the box, it would be good to see beauty products. I struggle with finding good vegan beauty products so it would be good to have different products to try out!
Also, I would like vegan chocolate (different brands, flavours, etc) because… who doesn’t love chocolate!! 😀

  27. I have never subscribed, so what would I like to see if I got one? hmmm. Probably snacks and personal care products which were also eco-friendly. I have no idea if I just entered that correctly! ha ha.

    1. I just checked and you did enter correctly 😀 You’re also entitled to a couple of bonus entries as you follow me on FB & Twitter. I’ve added them in for you. Good luck! xx

  28. I don’t subscribe, but if I won the box, I’d love to try out products I’ve never used or heard of, regardless of whether they are food or personal items! (And a bit of chocolate never hurts either, LOL!)

  29. I don’t subscribe, but just checking them out now. I was going to suggest a beauty/body care box, a food/drink box, and a home stuff box, but seems they already do that… I think free samples or smaller trials of certain things would also be good. To be honest, snacks would be my favourite, as making meals at home is easy, but when you need something on the go that is when things get tricky.

Love your site, so many yummy recipes.

  30. Hi Sharon,

Thanks for the tweet! I haven’t been checking blogs lately, the holiday has been chaotic! Thank you for hosting the giveaway, that’s so awesome! I think I would love to try anything from the box! I love anything salty, sour or sweet! I’ve only tried another snackbox subscription (locally)!

Have a great weekend, Sharon! xx

  31. Yup, I’m with those who are suggesting kind solutions for clothes washing, especially a natural bleach. Kids’ school uniforms need it! Hand cream is a treat!
