Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you for all the kind words you’ve sent about my upcoming book launch and to everyone that’s preordered. I’ve been blown away by your kindness and generosity ❤️ The book is being printed in London next week, so it won’t be long until you can get your hands on a copy. So exciting!!! The 20% preorder discount is running until 31st October so, if you’re interested in purchasing a copy for yourself or as a gift for a loved one, check out this post for details.

To celebrate the launch of my book, I’ve got some fantastic events lined up over the coming weeks, starting today with a giveaway that involves chocolate… boxes of handmade vegan Christmas chocolate no less! My family loves Goupie. In fact, Lil’ L proclaims it to be one of his favourite chocolates ever! This is one giveaway that you definitely won’t want to miss out on.

Goupie Christmas Box

For today’s post, I’m handing over to Grace from Goupie, who’s going to tell us more about the business and its origins, as well as details of our worldwide giveaway…

Background
Goupie is something my grandmother used to make, and in turn my mum. We used to have it at most social occasions, in particular Halloween was a big thing for Goupie. We would always have a mountain of Goupie at the Halloween parties we hosted every year. Because my sister and I loved it, and all our friends loved it, we pulled on my mum’s natural entrepreneurial strings and persuaded her that she had to start selling it. As she had just sold her previous company, her and my dad, on kind of a whim, went down to a local café one day with some Goupie in hand. The café placed an order that day and the Goupie brand was officially born (not that we had any packaging, prices or anything else that might be useful at that stage!)

Goupie Original

Since then, we have expanded throughout the South East of England (we’re currently based in Goudhurst, Kent). We also sell to a few outliers in Scotland and Devon – even having online orders from American and the Netherlands. We now have moved out of our family kitchen, and into a bespoke factory unit with four employees. My dad, until recently, was solely in charge of our sales and marketing, with my mum heading the factory team and managing everything else. I officially came on-board earlier this year, after finishing my bachelors degree.

The Product
The basic Goupie recipe consists of a cocoa caramel base, with toasted rice and biscuit, which is then fully enrobed in fine dark Belgian chocolate. This creates a chewy chocolatey confection, with a slight crunch, that is something quite unique in texture. To make our 15 other flavours, essential oils, nuts and fruits are added. These recipes are all made by my mother.

Goupie Cherry Almond

My sister has recently decided to follow the vegan lifestyle which, we have to admit, has made us all much more tuned in to what we are eating and where our food comes from. We have always tried to be as sustainable as possible, using an RSPO certified palm oil and recycled packaging, but we are now looking to move all of our products into the vegan friendly range. However, as it stands at the moment 12 out of 16 of our flavours are vegan. These flavours are:

  • Original
  • Orange
  • Mint
  • Ginger
  • Espresso
  • Date & Walnut (also gluten-free)
  • Cherry & Almond (also gluten-free)
  • Dark Lavender
  • Hazelnut
  • Chilli
  • Boozy Christmas (also gluten-free)
  • A Taste of Christmas (also gluten-free)

A full description of each flavour and the ingredients can be found on our product page.

  1. What a lovely way to celebrate Sharon’s book release! Thank you for the giveaway, and for opening it to Sharon’s readers all over the world.
The two flavours I’d like to try first would be Cherry & Almond (you had me at bakewell tart!), and Dark Lavender. The other ones come close behind, though: they all sound awesome!

  2. Orange would be my number one choice as everyone knows I adore the chocolate orange combo. I’d also like to try the dark lavender as I really like floral flavours too.

  3. They look delicious, the two flavors I would love to try are Boozy Christmas and a taste of Christmas to get in the holiday spirit.

  4. Cherry and Almond would be my top pick seeing as I love the cherry/chocolate combo. Also it really tickles in my mouth about the White Lavender… Yum!

  5. oh the ginger has my mouth drooling as I type. and then either the cherry/almond or the mint – a toss up for sure.
